What is Line Editing?
Line editing is often confused with copyediting. While copyediting involves correcting spelling, grammar, word usage, and punctuation on a technical level, line editing involves going line-by-line and sentence-by-sentence through a manuscript to examine each sentence for improvement, tightening, refining, and developing the sentences to make them the best they can be while also preserving the author’s voice.
In the editing stages of a book’s production, this is done after developmental editing but prior to either copyediting or proofreading.
What Types of Books Do I Line Edit?
I will line edit any manuscript that can be fit into my schedule. I enjoy line editing, as it gives me a chance to help a client take their manuscript to the next level while maintaining the author’s voice and writing style. I will (and have) line edited projects in both fiction and nonfiction categories in a wide variety of genres, including romance of all types, horror, science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, speculative fiction, thrillers, suspense, cozy mysteries, memoirs, self help, history, and more.
